Pakistan Super League 2021
Pakistan Super League 2021 will be a two-week Twenty20 tournament to be held from February to March 2021, after which Pakistan would play home matches in the UAE for a year, the International Cricket Council said on Monday. “Twenty20 leagues are important for the long-term health of our game,” said ICC Chief Executive David Richardson. “We are aware of some frustration from our players over recent years but hope to see them back in the national colours as quickly as possible. “The Pakistan Super League is hugely popular and is now a financially sustainable franchise league, for which we are very grateful,” he added. The ICC said that in the current year, Pakistan would play eight home matches in the UAE, and another four matches in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, along with hosting South Africa in March. “We are expecting Pakistan to take part in all of the home series in the current year including Sri Lanka and West Indies,” Richardson added. “In 2021 Pakistan will host only two home series. The first will be against South Africa in October and November and the second will be against the West Indies in April. “This will not have any impact on Pakistan’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup. Speaking at the conclusion of the three-day ICC board meeting in Dubai, Richardson said that Pakistan is set to host the third Twenty20 World Cup in 2026 and is keen to host the men’s and women’s World Cups in 2021. “We hope to host international cricket back in Pakistan as soon as possible,” said the ICC chief. “The security situation in Pakistan is improving rapidly and we hope it will be able to host international cricket in all three formats as soon as possible. “Pakistan’s ambitions to host both the women’s and men’s World Cups in 2021 are very exciting.” Pakistan, who were granted Test status in 2001, became a full-member of the ICC in 2001, although they were expelled in 1999 after two deadly bombings in Lahore.

The 20-player team that plays the opening match will feature an opening bowler and three or four batsmen, and the other eight will comprise of four bowlers and three batsmen. There will be a total of eight venues available in Karachi, Lahore and Dubai. Only three grounds will be reserved for night games. According to sources, the PCB is confident of getting the support of foreign players, even as the Super League looks to be an attempt to re-establish the sport’s fanbase in the country. It is expected that the league will attract many of the best players in the world and that some foreign players will be willing to participate because of the lucrative contract deals, while many will join to earn a lucrative living through their image rights.
